Welcome to the World, Baby Dolphin!

November 6, 2018
We are pleased to announce the birth of a bottlenose dolphin at SeaWorld San Diego!

Announcing a new arrival!

After 12 months of gestation, our 29-year-old bottlenose dolphin Melanie gave birth to her third calf on Monday, November 5 at Dolphin Amphitheater.

Mom and Baby have been swimming, bonding, and nursing since the birth.

The as-yet-unnamed baby dolphin is estimated to weigh approximately 40 pounds, but gender will take a little longer to determine.

Melanie has been a nurturing mother (her first two calves, Griffith and Madison, were born in 1998 and 2000, respectively), as well as supportive of other dolphin mothers and calves at the park.

Our animal care and veterinary teams are monitoring the mother and baby around the clock, including respirations and nursing.

Welcome to the world, Baby Dolphin!

UPDATE (11/10/18):
